Summerlin Real Estate

Summerlin is a large master-planned community sitting partially on the western and northwestern ends of Las Vegas, and partially in unincorporated Clark county. This rapidly growing community of 100,000 people was originally a 25,000-acre parcel of empty land bought by Howard Hughes Jr. in the 1950s.

Today the western end of his original property is now a buffer zone owned by the Nature Conservancy, preserving Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area from property development.

The Villages of Summerlin

Summerlin is divided into distinct communities called Villages. Within each Village is a variety of smaller subdivisions. Some Villages have shared amenities for the entire community, and others have subdivisions with their own amenities.  Simply click a village on the map below to see each neighborhood in that village as well as all available homes for sale.

The History of Summerlin

In 1990 the Howard Hughes Corporation started building an enormous residential and commercial development on the rest of the site, and named it in honor of Howard Hughes' grandmother, Jean Amelia Summerlin. Today the corporation is still building homes, office buildings, parks, and schools for people to enjoy, with 25 completed villages and more still being planned.

Summerlin Schools

All public schools in Summerlin are part of the Clark County School District, which has seven elementary schools, three middle schools, a high school, and the West Career and Technical Academy based in the community. Not only is the district considered one of the best on the southwest, but all of the district schools within Summerlin have achieved very high marks, with 11 out of 12 receiving ranks of either 4 or 5 stars, the highest recognitions that the state of Nevada offers.

There are also fourteen nationally acclaimed private schools, including the Meadows SchoolAdelson Educational Campus and the Alexander Dawson School. When your kids get older they'll find excellent higher education options too with several schools such as Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas and a College of Southern Nevada campus right in the community.

Living in Summerlin

Shoot the breeze with your neighbors. Plan a day with friends. Walk. Hike. Run. Bike. Breathe. More than 150 miles of trails are carved into this desert oasis, connecting Summerlin’s neighborhood villages. Today there are 10 miles of completed trail along with 215 Beltway, with more on the way – and eventually, this regional trail system will connect to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Summerlin offers numerous fantastic recreational options. The Summerlin Council is responsible for operating a network of nearly 150 parks of all sizes, from small pocket parks covering only a few hundred square feet, to large community parks full of amenities. All 18 completed communities have at least one community park. T Both the council and the city of Las Vegas run several swimming pools in the community. Summerlin also organizes soccer and baseball leagues for residents of all ages to enjoy, and they also operate several large community and social centers.

If you're a golfer, there are nine spectacular courses to choose from, including 2 TPC courses that host PGA tour events, and a course designed by Jack Nicklaus. If you're looking for great events to enjoy, Summerlin organizes several community events throughout the year, including movie showings, local festivals, stage productions at the Summerlin Library Theater, all of which bring out people from all over the area. Also, both Las Vegas and the nearby Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area also offer many great events, shows, and other family entertainment options year-round.
